This is my site. No, the domain is not for sale. I am reading Garrison Keillor's Homegrown Democrat. It's a great tutorial for the beginning of the Obama administration and a great re-education of the hope and dignity that pervaded our early national psyche. It is an anthem for that which we are so desperate. Said one reviewer, "If you've bought into the usual talk radio screed against liberals, prepare for some serious cognitive dissonance when you read this book. You have been programmed to believe that liberals are treasonous, immoral, elitist spendthrifts hell-bent on stripping America of its military power and you of your right to worship as you please." I didn't forget about liberalism. And am angry about the Limbaugh, Hannity, and Falwell stupidity that grips our nation still. Thank goodness the people seem to have looked over in the abyss of Republicanism and repelled backwards toward hope and reconciliation. They fell gently into the arms of the Obama camp. And, not to worry. We are reconcilers. We Democrats. We liberals. We New Testament Democrats are very conscience of the rewards of forgiveness and reconciliation. And the penalties for holding grudges. I am also reading Mickey Edward's Reclaiming Conservatism. It is a smart treatise on what it means to have pay-as-you-go, delayed reinforcement, ant-versus-grasshopper economics and living within our means. Edwards points his finger at the robber barons that have taken over his party and the country and called for some sense. The two books should be read together so we can unlearn our contagious despair and again, as a people, with God's help, be the hope of the world. ### |
